Ruthie's Fall Adventures

Sorry I am so slack on the blog updating. Here are a few pics from the last 2 weeks.
Ruthie started preschool this year! She got to decorate a special bucket to keep her things in. She is so grown up!

Ruthie has started taking Ballet. On the first day I told her to go get her ballet things. When I came back into the room everything was neatly laid out on the couch. She is loving ballet.

Ruthie loved going to the dentist for the first time. We got her the book Bernstien Bear's Go To The Dentist to prepare her. She was a great little patient!

Ruthie loved wearing the dress Aunt Julia got her!

One other family joined us for New Year's Eve. We had an early countdown with hats, blow horns, confetti, and a small dance party.

We had a wonderful Christmas in NC with the Guthrie family. It was fun to be spoiled by aunts, uncles, Grandma, and Paw- Paw and to play with the cousins.

We had a Jesus birthday party with some of Ruthie's friends. Complete with cupcakes and singing "Happy Birthday". As the guest were leaving Ruthie waved good-bye and shouted, "Merry Christmas y'all!" Her momma was proud to know she is still a Carolina girl deep down. :) Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

Snow Days!

The last few days have been snowy and FREEZING. We spent most of Monday and all day Tuesday inside. Wednesday warmed up to 4 degrees (felt like -3) so we decided to go use our new sled with our friends. We were so layered we actually got a little hot (except for our faces).

Thanksgiving Weekend

Our little Squanto. Ruthie learned all about the first Thanksgiving, Samoset and Squanto. We played Squanto and the Pilgrims most days. Ruthie (Squanto) would pretend to help me (pilgrim) hunt for lobster, turkey and plant corn with fish.

(This is for my mom) Here is the turkey I was telling you about.

We went to the Broadmoor Hotel with Gary and Deb for a tree lighting. Our favorite part was the incredible gingerbread village.

We had a huge party and our friend Collin dressed up as Nate. Complete with beard, hogs hat, and a shirt that looks like one Nate wears frequently. The funny thing was his wife and little girl dressed as a CUBS fans. Nate and CUBS don't mix.

Ruthie has been wearing her fairy costume for weeks and is still wearing it now that Halloween is over. She dances all around the house and strikes poses. We had a great time going to a YMCA party, having a party and jump castle at our house and going trick-or-treating.

Here are random fall pictures.....

We went to Breckenridge mid September and the leaves were already turning. This is the only picture I have of our adventure, because Nate hates taking pictures and hates stopping to allow anyone else to take pictures.

We went to a local apple orchard with some friends to pick apples. Ruth ate 4 apples in 40 minutes while we were walking around. We had a great time and made an apple crisp when we got home.

We went to the Hot Air Balloon Festival again. The weather wasn't quite as good as last year so not as many balloons, but still fun. My sister Pam, Charlie, and baby Zoe were here to visit too, but Pam has all those pictures.

At night they have a "GLOW" where they light up the balloons. Very cool, but very crowded

We went to the zoo and Ruthie had her first pony ride. I cried for some strange reason!?

Nate went to LA and brought Ruthie back a pink guitar with her name on it. She loves it!! She will be releasing a hit song entitled "HEY, HEY POTATO" soon. This is an original Ruth Stratman song, but it is only 3 words repeated over and over....

Our good friend Nancy (aka Nanner or Donkeyhead) came to visit. We had a wonderful time. Ruthie had a blast having dance parties, reading "Fancy Nancy" 400 times, and of course singing.

While Nancy was here we went to a pumpkin contest and a fall festival at a historic ranch. There was apple cider being made, wool being spun, barn dances, hayrides, animals, and tons of other activities. The weather was great and the leaves are changing. It was a perfect fall day!

Beach Trip

We went to NC and got to see the Guthrie's for a few days. This was Nate's first time meeting his new niece Zoe.

We then headed to Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach to see friends and enjoy the beach.

Stratman Vacation

We had a wonderful time with the Stratman clan. We hung around the unique town of Boulder, CO for a few days.

We then headed to a cabin in the mountains. We had a incredible time running in the fields, canoeing, 4-wheeling, building rock sculptures, fishing, and just goofing off.

Our time was complete with somores and singing by the campfire.

Grandpa Gary and Grandma Deb moved to Boulder!!!! We are so excited that they are only about 1 1/2 hours away!
They moved here just in time to celebrate Deb's birthday.

The family got Grandma Deb a digital camera for her birthday. She was excited and a little nervous all at once.

Only Grandpa Gary would buy Ruthie a Yiddish book called "Shmutzy Girl"!

North Carolina

We went to NC to visit family and see our new cousin Zoe for the first time. She is absolutely precious!!!!! We had a wonderful time playing with Griggs, Kent and baby Zoe.
(I didn't get any pictures of Pam, Charlie, Chad or Griggs....how did that happen?)

Sorry for the hiatus! Quick updates: I've been backpacking for a week with students and head to New Orleans and Vancouver on our high school trips. Kim is heading to Charlotte/Asheville with Ruth to see new cousin Zoe and the rest of the Guthries. We will be in Wilmywood in August. The weather here is psychotic but we are adapting. The aspens are turning white bark and gold leaves in the mountains and my parents are moving to BOULDER, CO THIS WEEK!!!! WOOT WOOT
Not sure who likes the mic more, Nanner or Ruthie.
Ruth wants to fly fish like dad at the neighborhood park. She tells mom to put another grub on the hook.
We think Ruthie's love language is physical touch. Elizabeth feels violated.

Once again we got tons of snow on Easter, but it was beautiful! Our church service was great and we had a wonderful time with some friends that come over for dinner. We even had an indoor egg hunt for the Ruthster.

We made Easter cookies and invited friends over to dye eggs. I was a little busy, so I didn't actually take any pictures of the dying process. (PS -Thanks Lolly and Pop for the cookie cutters!)

Ruthie has started teaching her animals. She announces, "Hi everybody. I am your teacher today." Then she reads to them, gives them snack, with a prayer of course and makes them take a nap. Too cute!

We were on our way to a Butterfly Pavilion in Denver when we realized in the traffic we would never make it. Ruthie was so excited and even wore butterfly shoes. We quickly explained that there were fish and sharks there too and exited early to the aquarium. She loved it, but when we got in the car to head back home Ruthie replied, "Where are the butterflies". We explained that they were sleeping and we would have to come again to see them. Can't get anything passed her these days.

Mother Appreciation Weekend

So Kim's bday was friday and she went with a gaggle of 65 mommies to a retreat for the weekend...I'm ready for her to come home and it's saturday morning(JKJKJKJKJ) So glad she's there and now I get a taste of non-stop love!!
1) Ruthie refers to every object as "this guy" now. As I'm driving she was saying over and over "i'm gonna get this guy". Finally I looked back and her finger was so far up her nose she almost just her frontal lobe. She was determined to pick "that guy"

2) She has worn her bike helmet all day long since she woke up and she won't take it off. At least we're being safe.

3) It was snowing huge flakes today and they all landed on my beard....Ruthie leaned forward and licked them out of my beard. AWWWWW

4) She is her mother's daughter. She got out the 4th of July tub and we have flags everywhere and she's insisting I wear the big flag like a robe. I feel like Apollo Creed from Rocky.

The Presidential Inauguartion

Ruthie decided to "dress up" for the Presidential Inauguration. She wanted her clothes off, a purple necklace on, hat and gloves like everyone on the TV, and an American flag which I had to dig out of the 4th of July box. She kept saying, "Obama, big deal." and "So many!" refering to the crowd of people. What a patriotic little soul. Notice how she has tucked the

flag into her diaper.

Intently watching everyone get into their limos. Pre gloves and hat.

She likes to pretend she is going to visit her Aunt Ebbie and Uncle Chad. She repeats their names over and over, puts doggie, blanket and washie in a plastic bag and says "bye, airplane, be careful." She hides in between the glass door and the real door and acts like she is gone. Then bursts out and says "I'm home! Shopping, Ebbie, hairbows."

One of Ruth's favorite past times is standing on the porch railing and watching the world go by. She makes doggie and her washies stand on the railing too.

We went to the zoo for their annual holiday lights!

It was pretty cold! This is Ruthie and her friend Spence.

We had a Happy Birthday Jesus party complete with crafts, snacks, and cupcakes.

I only got 3 pictures and Ruthie isn't looking in any of them.

We opened the new kitchen from Grandma Guthrie and Paw-Paw early so we could play with it before we left for Missouri.

There was an interactive nativity near our house. Ruthie loved Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus!

There were tons of animals too. We finally had to pull Ruthie away after being outside for 45 minutes.

We made cookies for Santa and left carrots for the reindeer.

It took us 30 minutes to put on our snow gear. Ruthie just wanted to wear her jacket and boots with no clothes underneath. There were a few tears when Mommy insisted she wear more.

ATTENTION!

She loved crawling in the snow.

Even though there were tears before we went out and tears when we had to come in, all in all it was a successfully snow day.

Ruthie found her Little People Manger Scene that I wasn't planning to get out until after Thanksgiving. She was screaming "BABY JESUS!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" at the box so I gave in and got it out. She has loved it and even brought baby Jesus to have lunch with her. She put him on a chair and said, "Sit down, baby Jesus". She insisted that I give baby Jesus some of her bread and green beans. She also kept pointing her sippy cup at him and making a slurping sound pretending she was giving him something to drink. Ruthie loves her some baby Jesus!

The high today was 37, but it was very windy and the windchill was 24. So Ruth got a chance to wear her winter hat to MOPS. She calls it "ball hat" because of the ball on top. She loved it so much she wore it all day.

This afternoon Ruth told me she was going to church. She put two babies in the stroller, got 2 bottles and 2 fake cookies for their snack, and a toy for each one. She then got a purse and put a pocket size Bible inside. Where do you think she learned this one?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I was very nervous because Ruth wouldn't put on her costume all month. We tried several different ones and she would scream when we would try to put them on. After she saw everyone else in a costume she ran to put hers on and wore it all night!

A Weekend Away

We went about two hours west to a lodge that was originally built for one family. Now it hosts paying guest and includes horseback riding, fishing, 4 wheeling, etc. Everything in was about 4x's normal size. You will see in pics below.

This is the cabin where we stayed. It is one of two cabins that is across the lake from the lodge.

Nate did a lot of fishing.

We drove to some small neighboring towns. We happened to come across a hotdog stand that we saw featured on the food network. Yes, it is a huge wiener.

Clifford the Big Red Dog came to Barnes and Noble today! I think it was the most exciting day in Ruthie's life thus far. In her book Clifford comes right after Jesus.

Ruthie did a great job. She was very excited, but kept her distance. She kept yelling "Clicker" and blowing him kisses. By the end of it she gave him a kiss. What a great day!

Fall Fun

Thursday is Nate's day off so we started the day at a local breakfast joint. They have the best cinnamon rolls in town. It was twice as large as Ruthie's head and oh so good!

We then went about 30 min. outside town to a farm. We picked a pumpkin, feed lots of animals, and went for a hayride.

Ruthie loved the chickens which reignited Nate's desire for a coop in our backyard.

This is about as close as she would get to most of the animals.

There was a sweet camel there too. Ruthie began to spit when she saw him because that is what we have taught her camels do.

This week we also went to the zoo. This is really the bear exhibit, but Ruthie is much more interested in the fish.

We were able to go hiking with some friends to see the beautiful Aspens. Ruthie fell asleep on the way down. The pink fluff in the back is Eleanor searching in Ruthie's pack for snacks.

We went to see a 1016 pound pumpkin.

We went to a outdoors store for their garage sale. Ruthie got a coat for next year and mommy got a pair of trail shoes for cheap.

Grandma Deb and Grandpa Gary sent Ruthie 3 Clifford toothbrushes. She didn't know what to do with herself.

Trip to Wilmington

On our way to Wilmington from Charlotte we stopped outside of Peachland to enjoy some peach ice cream just like Mommy and Daddy used to do.

Balloon Classic

This morning we all walked down the street for the Balloon Classic. There were about 100 balloons in the air. With the mountains in the background, it is an incredible site that happens every labor day. Ruthie loved it.

I must be reading the wrong bible, apparently Clifford the Big Red Dog was in the Ark. When you combo God and Clifford, both my girls get excited!

The balloons would drop down and drag their baskets in the water and the crowd would cheer.

We got some free stickers in the mail and you would have thought we hit the jackpot. Ruthie played with them for about an hour. They eventually lost their stickiness and Ruth lost her interest, but it was free fun delivered right to our doorstep.

Colorado Heat

For the last 2 weeks Colorado has had record heat. It has been in the mid 90's which is pretty hot when you don't have an ocean to jump in. Like most people here we do not have air conditioning, so we have been cranking up several fans. Here is Ruthie cooling off before bedtime. It is supposed to get a lot cooler this week.

Since the 4th is my favorite holiday, I put out all the decorations even though Nate was out of town. Ruthie woke up to a new wagon. She absolutely loved it and just sat in the wagon in the kitchen for a long time. We then made blueberry muffins with an American flag and napkin no less. We took the wagon and went to America the Beautiful Park to play in the fountain with our friend Eleanor. Next year we will try the fireworks. Once again...Like mother like daughter. Thanks mom for teaching me how to really enjoy the holidays!

no new posts because I have the computer with me on our 2 week mission trip to Vancouver via Yellowstone, Seattle and many other places. Here is the blog from the trip we are still on until the 14th VANCOUVER

I don't think I've ever really been homesick in my life....but it's a new story now that we have Ruthie, especially now that she recognizes when we are gone. Kim told me that Ruth has been dragging my picture and shirts around the house saying "Dadda?". If that doesn't choke a young father up...what will? Kim has been a trooper trying to get our house finished up before my family arrives in town as well as being a good single momma to Ruthie.

I've thought a bunch about the father-child relationship in my own life and in a spiritual sense throughout the week. My favorite mental picture is of Ruthie with her face smashed against the glass front door screaming "DADDA" as I walk up the front walk. I'm pretty sure my heavenly father delights when my face is smashed against the glass as well!

A Day in the Life of Ruthie

We woke up early and were running an errand when we heard on the radio that 150 cowboys were doing there annual ride through downtown Colorado Springs. So Ruthie (in her pj's) and I hurried to see all the cowboys in there hats and boots on there horses. Ruth loved it!!!!

I forgot my camera so no pic. We then went home and played in the backyard. I turned my back for 1 minute and turned around to see black all over Ruthie's face. I first thought it was black paint since our house is being painted. As I investigated further I realized it was soot from the grate over the firepit. HILLARIOUS!!!

We went inside to change....Ruthie then got into my purse and found a lollipop I had for the airplane incase of an emergency. She had unwrapped it and had drool all down her shirt by the time I got to her. By that time I couldn't take it away so she had her first lollipop at 9:00 am.

After her am nap we went to a park with a huge moving fountain. There was a wade pool at the bottom that was negitive 2 degrees. By the end of it Ruthie's whole body was purple.

At snack time Ruthie used her spoon all by herself. She did a great job!!!

That was our day!!!

I love this face!

Ruthie napped for 2 hours and 20 min. last Sunday. I finally had to go wake her to go to church. I tickled her, took pictures, shut doors, and did just about everything to try to wake her up. After 15 or 20 min. I finally just picked her up. Needless to say, we were late for church.

Ruthie knows how to open the kitchen cabinet and smart mommy put the Cheerios on the bottom shelf. This is what I found one day when I came in the kitchen.

Mommy and Ruthie took a trip to Hollywood to visit Grandpa Gary and Grandma Deb. This is Ruthie's first trip to LA (outside the womb). We have had a wonderful time going to the Kodak theater outdoor mall, the Universal Studio mall, parks, and the LA Zoo. Ruthie has also gone on long walks with Grandpa Gary every morning to look at the cute cottages and the beautiful flowers.

We woke up this morning (thurs/my day off) and we got a dumping of snow in late April. Momma Ti Ti cooked some funnel pancakes that Ruthie inhaled after watching some Clifford re-runs. Kim says this was like a Guthrie Saturday.

House Update: floors are getting there final coats of goo. Appliances come this week, ducts get cleaned, girls core group comes to paint trim, counters are in, lights are in, doorbell is annoying and the bathroom is complete with new everything and the new toilet has been Christened...so it's Kosher.

We are more than ready to move and God is Good in the midst of it all!

We finally have a kitchen floor, cabinets, paint and many other things on the main floor of the house. Our hope is to be moved in the last week of April. Momma Kim is smiling more these days because sconces, bead board and martha stewart type stuff make her happy. The Ruthster is fully mobile and curious. I think she is ADD like her momma and doesn't sit still like her shy father.

The Ruthster is finally 1 and Kim's parents flew out for her birthday week. I had to lead our winter camp at Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, CO, so the fam ended up staying in an incredible mountain house while I was at camp. She got a crib for her babies (Dolly, Ba-Ba and Doggie), a climbing tunnel, a rubber ball and much more. She is walking everywhere and cutting her top chompers as we speak. We are up to our ears in house stuff and pray we can move in within the next month.

If I was King for today....I would do 2 things:

1) Make it a crime for all special interest and political groups to spend millions of dollars on negative campaign adds when we have soldiers who return home to terrible healthcare and housing, teachers in poverty and kids killing each other over tennis shoes. Politicians should go yard to yard and shake hands, rake leaves and drink lemonade with people. All that is free.

2) The second thing I would do is make today a national holiday in honor of my wife who is a great friend and incredible mother. She turned 30 today and Ruthie turns 1 next week.

Mucho has happened in the life of the Namtarts in the last few weeks. We have a contract on a "wee little hoosie" as my scottish uncle would say. We close on the 27th, Kim wants to close yesterday. My mom and Auntie Wrenn came and spent time with us. Kim and I went to a marriage retreat at Young Life's Trail West and it was incredible for our marriage. We are in the middle of picking out cabinets, countertops etc. Today is Valentines day and it is snowing, hopefully I can still take Kim on a little surprise rendezvous anoche!

Aunt Wrenn has been out here this week and it has been fun hanging out.Ruthie is now up to 7 steps before the wipe out. My mom comes out here from LA tuesday to stay with us and watch Ruthie while Kim and I go to a marriage retreat at Trail West.

We finally have a contract on a house that we are both really excited about. This has been an answer to prayer.

We've been told by the nursery folks that Ruthie has been spending a bunch of time with another boy....Oh My!
Kim is doing well and meeting some great people in her mops group and bible study. It has snowed almost everyday it seems...but hasn't been painfully cold. We are still on the house hunt and yes we are still living out of suitcases.
The second week at work my job got changed to the Student Ministries Leader and we have rearranged our team. I really enjoy the folks I work with. There are some incredible people on staff at First Pres.

I can honestly say that I have never been so unsettled and peaceful in my entire life. We are trying to find a house, adjust to driving on the snow, finding our way around a huge church and a sprawling community. My first week at the church has been considered one of the hardest changes in the history of the congregation. There was a large cutback in staff as well as budget.
In the midst of the storm....I truly feel at peace. God has led us to this place and has allowed us to have an incredible experience in NC. He hasn't let go...and He won't. As much as I hate cliches, "Gods way of doing things aren't always the way I would choose to do things".
Kim is meeting friends through MOPS and a Bible Study. I am really enjoying several of the church staff who have taken an interest in us and the youth ministry. Ruthie likes to make cool noises with her mouth and she has started dancing in the past week or so.

well, it's the eve of my first day of work here in the Springs and I have my outfit set out next to my bed along with my trapper keeper and lunch box. I truly am excited and overwhelmed all wrapped up in one big emotion. I'm ready to see my wife and child..saturday can't come soon enough.

I feel like the little green guy above. I'm in Colorado, Kim is in Charlotte, our stuff is in a storage unit, I'm staying at a friends, we will move into another house when Kim and Ruthie get here, then we pray we find a house to move into.
Why the Alien you ask?
There are many references in scripture about being an alien or stranger in a foreign land. I have thought about those verses especially since I don't have a physical home at this point. Not to over spiritualize everything, but God has truly reminded me of my eternal home.....and that it's somewhat natural to feel like a stranger. I love the idea that this world is not our home, we are on vacation in a sense until we are called "up yonder". But while on vacation, God has called us to be faithful and that's a full-time yet rewarding job.

Kim and I have been blessed on both sides of the country to have kind folks who have taken us in and cared for us. We have seen the face of Christ in many of these people. This is a tough time....but it's also a good time. I can't wait for my family to get here as we attempt to settle into this new place.

The Farewell Party

Last night there were about 300 people gathered in our church gym to send us off to Colorado. They made a huge meal, a great video and sang some songs. It struck me on the way home that I just participated in a rare occassion.....and every aspect of that occassion gave the glory and thanks to our Lord. Kim and I received some incredible letters and gifts from our great friends here at St.Andrews-Covenant. After the meal, all the students and college kids and "real world" kids joined us in the HUB for a final time of worship and celebration. My tear ducts are dry and my back hurts from hugging.
I ran a diagnosis on my tears and It came back that they were tears of gratitude and thankfulness. This church has loved us well and we love them the same. At some point I will try and put the video up on the blog for yall to see.

The Advent Conspiracy

The Clan Namtarts head off to Colorado Springs for Chapter 3 in the Namtart Adventure on December 21st. We have some going away parties, I turn 30 on the 20th and then we go to Charlotte for Christmas and then I head off to the Rockies with my truck full of gear and a plethora of books on tape. To get in the right frame of mind I think I will get Lonesome Dove, Louis L'Amour and some other western romance books.

Well...The Stratman's have offically moved out of our house...we are sad, excited, and relieved all at the same time. We will be in Wilmington until Christmas and then off to Colorado at the end of December. We are so thankful for all our friends that helped us pack and watch Ruthie.

2 Random thoughts

1)Today's word is GRATITUDE-
it has been made abundantly clear to me that we are good at asking God to supply us and our loved ones with health, outcomes, finances, hope etc...
Here's the RUB- God continues to work in front of my very eyes and I rarely thank Him like I should.....always off to the next thing. So here is the question for you and I...."When was the last time you took a breather and thanked your Maker for answered prayers? hmmmmm It's time for all of us to "waller" in His goodness.

2)On a lighter note- On one side of our youth building is a Methadone Clinic and on the other side is a center for middle aged, low-income folks with mental disabilities. One of my new friends from next door, Reggie has been hanging around alot. He comes to my offic to borrow a basketball so he can work on his jump shot on our goal. We share the lot with 10 other agencies and a restaraunt. Reggie (who is 50+yrs old), took it upon himself to collect landscaping blocks, cones, rocks, an empty box of Philly Blunts and other "borrowed" objects. He spread these objects all over the lot and connected them with caution tape around the goal. Some people called the cops on him and they arrested him and hauled him downtown. Later that day he came bye the youth building and I asked him about his adventures today. His response, "Man, I was just workin' on my jumpshot when they snagged me and took me downtown...sumthin' bout a summons'....well at least I got a ride downtown, I had things I had to do down there".
